The California State University
Annual Campus Technology Survey
Fiscal Year 2003/2004

About This Survey

The CSU Campus Technology Survey for Fiscal Year 2003/2004 is one of several system data collection activities pertaining to information technology in the California State University. Related activities include biennial opinion surveys of students, faculty and staff, and annual reports from centrally managed programs and information systems. The division of Information Technology Services has responsibility for these activities.

The primary purpose of the annual campus technology survey is to meet a Legislative reporting requirement associated with State support for improving the technology infrastructure of the CSU. In return for investments totaling some $243 million over a three-year period, the CSU agreed to provide annual reports through 2008 on the impact of those investments. Information collected to meet the State reporting requirement is reported for the system as a whole. Individual campus data are not reported. Information gathered is also used internally to inform and to evaluate implementation of the Operations and Support Strategies component of the CSU's Integrated Technology Strategy - Technology Infrastructure Initiative.

Questions in the current survey have been asked in the same or similar form beginning with the FY 1999/2000survey, and will be asked each year through 2008. The intent is to measure change over time on a series of important indicators related to the goals of the Integrated Technology Strategy (ITS).

The survey is divided into four parts. Part A asks for the name of the campus and information about the person submitting the data. Part B asks sets of questions related to ITS initiatives. Part C asks for information about the campus IT environment. Part D provides an opportunity for respondents to annotate data and to comment on issues raised by the survey. Terms requiring clarification or interpretation are underlined. Clicking on them will take the reader to a separate document where the necessary information is provided.

Submission of the Survey

Only one person designated by the campus president, or his/her designee, will be given a password and the URL to submit the completed survey on behalf of the campus. To facilitate consultation with campus constituencies, read-only access to the survey form is provided here.

Deadline for Receipt of Survey

The deadline for submitting this survey is August 2, 2004.

A Final Comment

The Legislature invited the CSU to demonstrate the value of its investments in the CSU technology infrastructure against a set of measurable criteria. The Measures of Success report, produced from information received in this and related surveys, seeks to document how these investments translate into improvements in learning and teaching, personal productivity, administrative productivity, and the quality of the student experience, the outcomes articulated in the CSU Integrated Technology Strategy.
